Miller Harris Asthma Camp for Kids

Joe C. Davis YMCA Outdoor Center

August 4-8, 2008

The Miller Harris Foundation in partnership with Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt and the Joe C. Davis YMCA Outdoor Center has established the Miller Harris Asthma Camp for Kids, a unique five-day summer camp experience for children ages 6-13 with asthma whose health has made it difficult for them to attend a regular summer camp.  On-site medical supervision by teams of volunteer physicians, nurses and respiratory therapists is provided to help monitor the campers throughout the day and teach them how to better manage their asthma with daily educational sessions.  A camp activity staff, expertly oriented to meet the specialized needs of the asthmatic, coordinates a program, which includes arts and crafts, archery, hiking, games, swimming, and more. The goal is to convince our campers to optimize their abilities, have fun, and learn.  Scholarships are available for select asthmatic children to attend this camp free of charge.
